Description & FAQ
L-Glutamine Performance Supplements
Glutamine has long been a popular staple among athletes thanks to its reported ability to aid muscle growth, fight soreness and fatigue, and promote good immune system function.
L-glutamine is an amino acid and the most abundant one found in our body. It’s important for forming proteins and helping the body fight disease effectively. The body can produce glutamine on its own, but when under stress – like regular or heavy exercise – levels can get depleted.
Should I take Glutamine with other supplements?
Yes! Glutamine is actually believed to be more effective when combined with other supplements, like BCAA. Taking the two together is believed to help reduce ammonia concentration, while supplying an extra source of energy. Both are thought to help stimulate muscle growth and aid recovery.
What is the difference between L-Glutamine and D-Glutamine?
There are two types of glutamine: L-glutamine and D-glutamine. They’re both amino acids but have slightly different molecular structures. L-glutamine is used by the body to synthesise proteins, fuel the immune system, and maintain gut function. D-glutamine, however, is not found abundantly in nature and doesn’t offer much benefit to living organisms.
Can Glutamine help improve mood?
Glutamine helps to support your body’s production of serotonin, also known as the “happiness hormone”. Serotonin is responsible for feelings of positivity and joy. Increased levels of serotonin can help to counteract negative mood and depression.
The Science
Studies into L-glutamine supplements have shown that they visibly improve post-workout recovery times, aid healthy gut function, and reduce exercise-induced inflammation.
Faster
Recovery
According to this study:
After taking just a three-day course of L-glutamine, scientists observed an increased recovery of peak muscle torque and reduced soreness following a tough exercise session.
Participants: 16 adults
Study Length: 6 days
Better
Gut Health
According to this study:
Scientists delivered a steady course of L-glutamine to a group of patients struggling with symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. At the end of the study, those on the supplements experienced significantly less symptoms than those on the placebo.
Participants: 106 adults
Study Length: 8 weeks
Post-Exercise
Inflammation
According to this study:
Sometimes, after exercise or a heavy workout, intestinal permeability can be increased, leading to inflammation and gastric distress. Scientists found that a small 7-day course of L-glutamine helped to prevent this.
Participants: 8 adults
Study Length: 7 days
